Douglas County
Douglas County has 844 square miles of striking natural beauty, including mountain, foothills, and plains. The 2000 census listed Douglas County as the nation’s fastest growing county in the past decade. Between 1990 and 2006, the County’s population grew 364.7 percent.
Douglas County is strategically located on the I-25 corridor between Colorado’s two largest metro areas, Denver and Colorado Springs. Douglas County was part of the nation’s largest multi-modal transportation initiative, the $1.67 billion T-REX (Transportation Expansion Project) that expanded highway lanes and added light rail lines along I-25 linking the County to downtown Denver.
Douglas County is home to premier business parks, LEED certified buildings, and the E-470 toll road provides easy access to Denver International Airport. Nearby Centennial Airport, the nation’s third busiest general aviation airport, services the office parks in Douglas County. The County actively plans for and pursues well-managed, quality commercial development. Key industries include health care and health services, professional services, communications, financial services and insurance, and aerospace.
Douglas County’s strength as the centerpiece of the Denver/Colorado Springs development corridor comes from a blend of lifestyle and business environment. To preserve the area’s natural environment, 70 percent of the corridor remains agricultural, ranching, parks, and open space.
