Metro Denver has one of the nation's strongest metropolitan economies. Median household income in the Metro Denver area was $59,007 in 2009, 17.5 percent higher than the national median income of $50,221.

Metro Denver has historically enjoyed higher household incomes than the rest of the nation due the high education attainment levels of the Metro Denver workforce and a higher-than-average concentration of two-earner households.

Per capita personal income in Metro Denver was $46,868 in 2009, a four percent decrease from $48,940 in 2008. Even after the decline, Metro Denver per capita personal income was still more than 18 percent higher than the national average. Per capita personal income in Northern Colorado decreased to $32,935 in 2009, down 3.3 percent from 2008.
