Industries

With assets like DIA, Metro Denver's aviation industry is taking flight.

Denver International Airport (DIA) and three reliever airports located strategically throughout the region form a strong foundation for 15,690 workers employed by aviation companies in the nine-county Metro Denver and Northern Colorado region.

The region is ranked 10th among the nation's 50 largest metro areas for aviation employment concentration in 2009. The industry cluster includes companies that manufacture aircraft and provide air transportation services.

A top factor in the industry's ascent in Metro Denver is dynamic growth at DIA. In 2009, the DIA passenger count exceeded 51 million (one million more than the planned capacity for the current facility) and set several records for monthly passenger traffic, even as the recession curtailed business and leisure travel nationwide. DIA is the nation's fifth-busiest airport and the 10th-busiest in the world. Steady increases in flights, passenger traffic, and development near the airport is fueling aviation expansion.

With North America's longest commercial runway, DIA offers nonstop service to 18 international locations including destinations in Europe, Canada, Mexico, and Central America. With international passenger traffic increasing, there's also significant potential for new daily nonstop international flights.

The Metro Denver Aviation Coalition (MDAC) advocates for DIA, Metro Denver's three reliever airports (Centennial, Front Range, and Rocky Mountain Metropolitan), and promotes a public policy conducive to economic development. MDAC members also serve as public and private sector advocates and provide support in such areas as job growth, route expansion and retention, infrastructure development, and airport on site and adjacent development.

So look seriously at our region for aviation expansion. You'll find great growth opportunities, convenient access to customers, and a preoccupation with aviation that matches yours.
