One bounce away from the rest of the world (and clients).
With 40,500 broadcasting and telecommunications workers, the nine-county region has the fourth-highest total employment in 2011 out of the 50 largest metropolitan areas.
Data moves efficiently here, too. As a national center for telecommunications, the area is home to giants in the satellite, subscription TV, and telephone industries—not to mention that we are one satellite bounce away from virtually anywhere on earth due to our Mountain time zone location.
The Milken Institute’s "North America’s High-Tech Economy: The Geography of Knowledge-Based Industries" ranked Denver fourth among the nation’s top 10 tech poles in the telecommunications industry. In 2011, Denver ranked fifth on CNBC's list of "America's Most Wired Cities" with an average download speed of 10.2-megabits per second (Mbps).
Growing telecom companies will have no problem finding skilled workers here, since broadcasting and telecommunications companies make up about 2.3 percent of the region’s total employment base, compared to a 0.8 percent concentration nationally.
Plus business operating costs here are low with a flat 4.63 percent corporate income tax rate and single-factor sales tax allowing companies to pay taxes only on their sales in Colorado.
It's not hard to see why telecom heavy hitters such as EchoStar, Comcast, and DIRECTV are thriving at our 5,280 elevation. Expanding your company here might be the best call you could make.
