Robert Olislagers was appointed executive director of Centennial Airport in September 2000. Located in Arapahoe County, Centennial Airport is currently ranked No. 3 in the nation among airports that are not certified for scheduled airline service and ranked No. 29 of all airports (including LAX, Chicago's O'Hare, and New York's La Guardia). Centennial Airport is the only airport in the U.S. to have three Fixed Based Operator's (FBO) ranked in the top 25 of all U.S. based FBO's.
With nearly 25 years experience in airport management, Olislagers served airports in New York and California before coming to Colorado. He authored the book Fields of Flying with a foreword by General Chuck Yeager, known for having broken the sound barrier. Olislagers can also be seen on the History Channel’s Modern Marvels series on airports.
Under Olislagers’ leadership, Centennial Airport accommodated 319,713 aircraft operations in 2006 - that is a takeoff or landing nearly every minute of every day! The airport has doubled hangar capacity in the last seven years to accommodate the business aircraft market. The airport is home to a number of Colorado's largest companies and generates a significant amount of business traffic for Metro Denver and Colorado. In 2002, a study found that Centennial Airport is No. 2 behind DIA in creation of airport jobs in the state. It is estimated that over 10,000 jobs are supported by Centennial Airport and that the combined direct and indirect economic impact is over one billion dollars annually.
Olislagers points out that as the premier corporate and business airport in Colorado, the objectives of the Metro Denver EDC and Centennial Airport are closely aligned and that their collaborative effort was most evident in 2004 with the passage of HB1314 providing tax incentives for aircraft manufacturers in Colorado, which Olislagers helped to craft.
