The Metro Denver EDC's major accomplishments in 2006-2007

  • Provided $200,000 to support Lufthansa's new Denver to Munich flight, which launched in April 2007. With an annual economic impact of $108 million, the international flight will be a catalyst for commerce between the Metro Denver region and Bavaria, and provide the region's companies increased assess to Europe.

  • Worked with Lockheed Martin and Boeing to locate the headquarters of its newly formed company, the United Launch Alliance—and 1,500 new high-paying aerospace jobs—to Metro Denver.

  • Assisted Vestas Wind Systems of Denmark with its site selection process in choosing Windsor as the site of its first North American manufacturing plant. The $62 million, 200,000-square-foot facility will produce 1,200 wind turbine blades annually, providing 450 manufacturing jobs in Northern Colorado.

  • Released the second edition of the Toward a More Competitive Colorado report, an extensive study of Colorado's competitive position nationally for economic growth and job creation.

  • Released the annual Industry Cluster Study, detailing six top industries for job growth in Metro Denver and Northern Colorado: aerospace, aviation, bioscience, energy, financial services, and information technology - software.

  • Launched www.MetroDenverGIS.org, a GIS-enabled site selection Web site to search available real estate and associated demographics and businesses in Metro Denver and Northern Colorado.

  • Served as the premier sponsor of the Urban Land Institute's fall 2006 meeting in Denver.

  • Led efforts to host the CoreNet Global Summit in Denver, a premier gathering of over 2,000 national site selectors and corporate real estate executives in April 2007.

  • Awarded $3.8 million in grants to 10 area workforce and education programs as part of the Metro Denver WIRED Initiative "JumpStart" grant program. The U.S. Department of Labor awarded the Metro Denver EDC a four-year, $15 million WIRED (Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development) grant in 2006 to develop the region’s pipeline of skilled workers.

  • Through the Metro Denver WIRED Initiative, commissioned and released a Workforce Study on the human resource needs of Metro Denver’s fastest-growing industries.

  • Created the Colorado Energy Coalition, a consortium of energy leaders and stakeholders in the state, to position the region as the "Balanced Energy Capital of the West."

  • As a result of the Metro Denver EDC's national marketing efforts, Metro Denver was featured in several national media outlets, such as The Wall Street Journal, San Francisco Chronicle, National Public Radio, The Economist, and Governing magazine.

  • Served as a founding sponsor of the Metro Denver Health and Wellness Commission, which was created to position Metro Denver as the nation's healthiest community.

  • Participated in numerous national trade shows, including MD&M (Medical Device and Manufacturing), the National Space Symposium, BIO, and CoreNet Global.
