Mortenson project gets ARRA funds

M.A. Mortenson Co. expects to put about 2,000 people to work modernizing the Byron G. Rogers federal building in downtown Denver, using funds from the stimulus plan.

The General Services Administration, which manages federal office buildings, awarded the $129.57 million contract — its largest in Colorado — to M.A. Mortenson Feb. 17. Work will begin in October with completion expected in late 2012.

The GSA has been allocated $5.5 billion under the year-old American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, with funds earmarked for improvements to federal buildings.

Last year in Colorado, the GSA awarded 77 contracts with a combined value of $126 million.
