Vestas dedicates Pueblo wind-tower plant
Wind-turbine maker Vestas will officially open its Pueblo wind-tower factory on Tuesday.
U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar is slated to be on hand for the ceremony at the complex.
The company says the Vestas Towers America facility is the world's largest wind tower manufacturing plant, with its main production building covering 432,000 square feet. There are eight miles of railway tracks at the plant to transport materials and finished tower components.
Vestas also operates a wind-turbine blade factory in Windsor and a turbine necelles factory in Brighton, and will open another blades plant in Brighton next year. It also has a sales office in Lakewood and plans to open a research-and-development facility in Louisville.
Vestas Wind Systems is based in Randers, Denmark. Its U.S. division is based in Portland, Ore.
