Vestas expansion plans in Colorado

Vestas Wind Systems is again expanding, but this time the company is focusing on stretching its grounds at its blade manufacturing plant in Windsor.

The company last month closed on a $2.5 million deal for roughly 80 acres just east of its existing turbine blade manufacturing plant in Windsor. The company is now grading the property, which will be used for blade storage, according to those close to the project.

The company bought the land, which is physically in the city of Greeley, from Lot Holding Investments, the family business headed by George Hall, president of Hall-Irwin Construction.

Vestas most recently opened its new nacelle factory in Brighton, announcing 1,000 new jobs for Colorado by the end of the year. The company's second blade manufacturing plant is set for construction next to the nacelle factory, and is due to employ 750 workers. The company also plans to hire 100 new employees for the Windsor plant, and 167 more for the tower plant in Pueblo.

The company in July also opened a research and development office in Louisville, with 46 employees. The facility is expected to hire 125 more employees in the next year.
