Chamber to host Balanced Energy Economy Series
The Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce and the Colorado Energy Coalition are introducing a quarterly series on the latest information regarding the fast-changing energy industry with the Balanced Energy Economy Series. Panels of subject matter experts will explore and explain how this dynamic industry impacts every part of our daily lives.
Session One:
HOW MUCH GREEN DOES IT TAKE TO GO GREEN?
September 23, 2008
Are you thinking about making your building green, but don’t know where to start? Are there regulatory hoops you’ll have to jump through? What’s a reasonable return on investment, and how do you reach that magic number? With all the latest buzz around energy efficient buildings, it’s not surprising that building owners have lots of questions. This session will provide some insight on how to go green.
- Hear from Boyd Novak, the Director of Infrastructure and Resource Management, of one of Colorado’s largest employers, IBM, as he tells the story of the planning process involved in building its new green data center in Boulder.
- John Thornton will apply his 44 years of engineering experience in the field of renewable energy and 28 years working at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) to provide insight on solar energy.
- CB Richard Ellis will also describe how it presents green building cost analyses to its clients.
Future topics and dates include:
Session Two:
TURNING ON THE LIGHTS: THE POWER BEHIND THE SWITCH
December 2, 2008
What's all this fuss about the "Smart Grid City"? We know that energy prices are climbing as never before, and as much as 60% of the energy we bring into our buildings is lost to waste, an global warming is attributable to the use of fossil fuels. So, is there a smarter, cheaper and more environmentally sane way to manage our energy?
Session Three:
IS THERE A FUTURE FOR NUCLEAR ENERGY?
March 17, 2009
Why even think about nuclear as a viable resource in our energy mix? Can nuclear energy be a safe resource; and if so, how?
Session Four:
THE 21st CENTURY OIL AND GAS
June 16, 2009
With the astounding growth in the renewable energy sector, it's tempting to think that we'll be "weaned off oil" any day now. But this is a significant transformation that experts say will take anywhere from 30 to 50 years to complete. New technologies and sustainable options will be discussed.
