Boulder Wind Power awarded DOE next generation drivetrain grant
The U.S. Department of Energy has announced that it selected Boulder Wind Power for a grant under the DOE's U.S. Wind Power Next Generation Drivetrain Development program. The program will provide up to $700,000 of funding in the first phase, during which Boulder Wind Power will develop a design and test program for a six megawatt, offshore wind turbine that incorporates the Company's innovative air-core, permanent magnet, direct drive technology. The Company will also validate the scalability, technological feasibility and economic advantages of its patented technology in a ten megawatt offshore wind turbine design.
The Company will be eligible to receive additional funding in Phase II of the DOE program. Several projects from the first phase will be selected by DOE to proceed to a testing phase.
"We are excited to have been selected for this important program," said Sandy Butterfield, CEO of Boulder Wind Power. "Our selection by the DOE is a strong validation of our technology and our team. We are confident this opportunity will allow us to demonstrate the advantages of our technology, particularly in off-shore wind applications. We truly appreciate the efforts of the reviewers involved in the program selection."
