Colorado and CU launch online renewable energy resource
The University of Colorado Law School's Center for Energy and Environmental Security (CEES) in partnership with the Governor's Energy Office has launched the new Colorado Energy Profile (CEP), on-line at www.energyincolorado.org.
The CEP provides easy access to the latest renewable, sustainable and traditional energy data, as well as federal, state, and local energy laws and policies pertaining to renewable energy, energy efficiency, transmission and storage. The project stems from Colorado House Bill 1203 in 2007, which encouraged GEO to allocate funds for climate change and energy research to Colorado's research universities.
"There's no shortage of information about energy today, but getting clear and accurate information from a reliable source is sometimes time consuming and confusing," said Tom Plant, director of the Governor's Energy Office. "CEP is an outstanding, easy to understand resource for homeowners, business-owners, media, policymakers, students, voters and researchers. We're glad we could help make it happen."
CEES led the two-year effort to create CEP. Designed to provide a wide range of users with timely and reliable information about Colorado's energy demands and resources, the site boasts key features such as:
- Static and dynamic charting and mapping applications displaying key energy data (installed capacity, resource potential, and
trends) organized by resource;
- A searchable sustainable energy and energy efficiency Law & Policy Database;
- Environmental applications displaying information about carbon dioxide and other emissions by sector and source; and
- Links to other key information resources and analysis.
"CEP is a unique resource in today's information environment because it objectively looks at our state's needs, existing resources and policy," said Julie Teel, senior research fellow at CEES. "By putting useful and understandable information about renewable energy, advanced energy technologies, energy efficiency, and policy in Colorado at everyone's fingertips, CEES hopes we can help grow interest in and advance Colorado's New Energy Economy."
