Denver International Airport expects record-breaking summer passenger traffic

May 25, 2018

Denver International Airport (DEN) is anticipating record-breaking passenger traffic this summer, and DEN provides many services and tips to help passengers have a smooth traveling experience.

Early estimates suggest that DEN could have its busiest day in Denver aviation history during this summer travel season. DEN has experienced six consecutive months of record passenger traffic and is prepared for and expecting more than 6 million passengers in July. Around 40 days this summer are expected to break the airport’s all-time daily passenger traffic record, which was set in June 2017.

The airport projects the busiest times at the TSA screening checkpoints will generally be from about 5-10 a.m., and from 1-4 p.m. Passengers are encouraged to arrive early to ensure the smoothest airport experience.

Here are some tips and tricks to make traveling through DEN easier and more fun this summer:

Plan Ahead

Passengers are encouraged to plan ahead by checking for real-time information on estimated security screening wait times and for details on the status of the airport’s garages and parking lots. DEN provides a variety of convenient parking options, including online parking reservations for Garage West and Garage East.

Play with a Pup

DEN’s Canine Airport Therapy Squad (CATS) will be roaming the concourses all year long for passengers to pet, take a photo with and help relax before a flight. The CATS team is so popular that it has grown to include over 100 dogs and one (actual) cat. Look for their schedules daily on Twitter @DENairport.

Arrive Early

Passengers are always encouraged to arrive at the airport at least two hours before departure to ensure ample time for checking in, security screening and arriving at the correct gate on time.

Practice Putting, Relax in the Park

Arrive early for your flight or picking someone up?  Take advantage of free activities and events on the DEN outdoor plaza, including a free 18-hole miniature golf course open 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. daily, weather permitting, until June 24. In July, the Plaza will transform into a Pop-Up Park, complete with gardens featuring native Colorado trees and plants, lawn games, lunchtime fitness classes and lounge seating.

Shop, Dine and Relax

The airport has more than 90 shops and 80 restaurants that are conveniently located in the Jeppesen Terminal and along all three concourses. DEN offers massage services, shoe shining stands, spa services and is home to airline clubs for United, American, Delta, British Airways and the USO. Digital directories throughout the airport, as well as, offer passengers quick links to locations, pricing, menus and more.

Double Check Belongings

To help keep security screening times to a minimum, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recommends that passengers double check their personal belongings and carry-on bags for prohibited items and pack carry-on bags so they can be screened quickly and easily.
