ADA Technologies spins off distributed sensor division

ADA Technologies, Inc. (ADA) announced today that it has completed the spin-off of its distributed sensor division to form a new company -- Advanced Distributed Sensor Systems, Inc. (ADSS).

ADSS develops, markets and manufactures a SensorPod(R) system that uses advanced sensor technologies and integrated communications to create a situational awareness network that has defense, homeland security, force protection and commercial applications. ADSS has been awarded more than $10 million in contracts in the past six months.

The ADSS SensorPod system gathers and communicates vital data to help military and civilian customers make critical operational decisions. The lightweight, rugged devices do not rely on existing communications infrastructure, making them especially suitable for use in locations that are extremely remote and difficult to access.

"Through the creation of this new company, ADSS customers will benefit from us being able to optimally structure our business systems and processes to be the most helpful and responsive to their requirements and needs," said David Jansen, ADSS CEO.

"ADSS is a real success story for ADA Technologies," said Clifton H. Brown, Jr., ADA president and CEO. "It further validates our business model of creating and converting innovative technologies to commercial successes and provides financial rewards for our employee shareholders."

The technology development program that led to the establishment of ADSS started with a single SBIR proposal to the U.S. Army in 1999. The first products shipped in 2005.

ADSS is currently located in ADA's Littleton, Colorado, headquarters.
