Presidential space policy debate in Boulder

On August 14th, 2008 at 7:30pm MDT, there will be a debate to discuss the space exploration policy of the next President of the United States. The campaigns of Senator John McCain and Senator Barack Obama will be sending representatives to discuss how their administrations would advance United States space policy over the next several years.

Apollo 7 Astronaut Walter Cunningham will represent Senator John McCain and former NASA Associate Administrator, Lori Garver will represent Senator Barack Obama.

According to Mars Society Executive Director, Chris Carberry, "This will be a perfect opportunity for the campaigns to articulate their policies. The next president will be in a unique position to move the space program forward." Carberry added, "Space policy could also be key in the election. Many of the ‘space states’ are too close to call in recent polls."

The debate will be held at the University Memorial Center at the University of Colorado, Boulder as part of the 11th Annual International Mars Society Convention, August 14-17, 2008.

The Space Policy Debate event will be free to the public on a first-come, first-serve basis. Anyone interested in bringing a group to the debate should contact spacedebate@marssociety.org or call (617) 909-4425, to reserve seating.
