About: Arts Street was founded in 1995 to help high-risk youth overcome barriers to self-sufficiency by channeling their artistic talents and creative ideas into professional activities that provide real-world employment experience.  In 2004, we were honored by the First Lady of the United States with the prestigious “Coming Up Taller” Award as one of the 15 best after-school arts programs in the nation. Arts Street’s core priorities have remained consistent since our inception:  helping high-risk youth gain the skills they need for successful careers. Content evolves constantly, however, based on requests from youth in the programs and opportunities in the workforce. Arts Street’s service model combines standard-based academic curriculum, mentoring, problem solving and teamwork to help students grasp, retain and apply academic principles, connect with peers from diverse backgrounds, achieve academic success, develop leadership skills, and prepare for the workforce.
