Sustaining Transformations Through STEM
Organization: Thompson School District
Grant Round: Jumpstart
Program’s Objectives: Thompson School District will increase science, technology mathematics and engineering (STEM) course options and the number of underrepresented students successfully completing higher-level science and mathematics courses to increase the number of its graduates pursuing STEM careers through post-secondary certification programs, associate degrees, and four-year university/college degrees.
Individuals Served: We have served approximately 10,000 students both directly and indirectly through training of teachers in the areas of math and science, Schools Attuned, and critical thinking strategies.
Success Story: One of the greatest successes is the number of minority students, including females, that are enrolled in or have taken higher level science and math courses. Our local newspaper, the Reporter Harold, has featured several articles about the project at Loveland High School where the combination of math and CTE courses made possible the building of a cabin that was sold.
Quote: “The opportunity to work in partnership with the business community and higher education made possible through the WIRED grant is giving our students the skills they need for the 21st century.”
