Consulates & Sister Cities

Metro Denver's strategic location, diverse industry mix, and fast-growing international airport make it a highly strategic location for international trade.

Consulates & Sister Cities

Metro Denver is home to 35 foreign consulates, including five staffed by career diplomats from the countries of:

  • Canada
  • Mexico
  • United Kingdom
  • Japan
  • Peru

These Foreign Consulates work with the region's economic development groups to expand bilateral trade and economic relations, as well as increase trade promotion and cultural exchange.

The City and County of Denver maintains Sister City relationships with communities in 10 countries:

  • Axum, Ethiopia
  • Brest, France
  • Chennai, India
  • Cuernavaca, Mexico
  • Karmiel, Israel
  • Kunming, China
  • Nairobi, Kenya
  • Potenza, Italy
  • Takayama, Japan
  • Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

Sister City partnerships are officially recognized through signed agreements by the respective mayor of each city and ratified by the city councils. As well as building economic ties, these relationships help generate tourism and further cultural understanding between the Sister Cities and Metro Denver communities.

In addition, communities throughout the region have similar ties around the world to help promote global cooperation.
