NOAA Selects SpaceNav for Advanced Space Situational Awareness Services

August 20, 2019

BOULDER, CO − SpaceNav, a Colorado-based engineering and applied mathematics company has been awarded a new contract by the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to deliver subject matter expertise for Space Situational Awareness (SSA) operations. NOAA’s operational fleet of spacecraft resides in both Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and Geosynchronous Earth Orbit (GEO) regimes and requires real-time safety of flight risk quantification and mitigation; precision orbit determination; and mission production generation.

SpaceNav’s SSA solutions to NOAA shall include: automated collision risk assessment and optimal collision avoidance planning, data association and orbit determination utilizing information from both commercial and government sensors, and maneuver detection/maneuver reconstruction for other close-proximity spacecraft. NOAA will leverage SpaceNav’s AdvancedSSA.com software as a service-based platform to monitor high-interest SSA events and retrieve recommended courses of action.

“NOAA’s continued commitment to improving SSA operations by embracing new ideas and new technologies ensures mission success as the operational needs change,” says SpaceNav’s founder & president, Matthew Duncan. “The foundation of our cloud-based software as a service approach is rapid deployment of new capability which enables improved flight operations in near real-time. The AdvancedSSA.com architecture is designed to easily ingest data from multiple sources, automatically deliver actionable information to mission stakeholders, and seamlessly integrate with mission control centers. This award recognizes SpaceNav’s strong performance as an industry leader in the ever evolving SSA domain.”
